This has been a favorite course of ours for years. We escape KL a few times a year to get up to CH. We like the all-day price of RM 52.50 on weekdays, that there are no buggies (we prefer to walk), its pretty setting and the pleasant weather (although you can usually expect afternoon rain.) It's always been a semi-scruffy course, but so is my game... But bigger news is that they have closed half the course (as of a few months ago - the back 9) for what looks to be a complete overhaul. I imagine this will improve the drainage; it's always been a soggy course. But it will be a 9 hole course for quite a while. We were told that the back 9 will be ready supposedly in July 2012 at which point they'll close the front 9 for renovation. (Another 8 - 10 months, bringing it well into 2013 before it's an 18 hole course again?) But the new clubhouse and locker rooms are very nice, and for that price we'll still be happy to play the same 9 holes 2 or 3 times in a day.

Was up in Camerons about 2 weekends ago, and first time playing after the completion of the new clubhouse. Coincidentally, there was a tournament on and they allowed guests so I joined in for some fun. Didn't win crap, but it was good fun as the flightmates were easy going and nice guys. Managed to get 2 rounds in over the weekend.

Must say that they did a very decent job on the new clubhouse and it looks very presentable. As for the course, not much has changed. As geraldsaw mentioned, the greens needs to be returfed as it was very inconsistent from one hole to the next. I didn't encounter problems with plugged balls on fairway despite playing in the rain during a round though. The locals told me that it hasn't been raining for close to a week before that and the course was dry and hard. Explains why landing an approach shot on the green usually meant looking for your ball beyond it :)

Regardless, still an enjoyable course with a decent mix of easy and challenging holes. Not to mentioned great weather! Not a place that I would purposely drive up for a round of golf, but if over the weekend with a day or two stay, definitely bring your clubs!

Just came back from Camerons. 1st day teed off at 5 pm on 1/2 day rate and completed 9 holes by 7 pm. Sky still bright enuf to consider another 3 holes but had to break off for family dinner. Next morning played 18 holes, went off for lunch with family and then finished another 18 holes. Weather that day was cooler than Awana, more towards Gentings Highlands weather.

Weekday: seniors 1/2 day rate (5 pm) is rm 21. Full day rate is rm 42.

The course is now very dry, the rough has been trimmed but the greens are a problem to putt because being a very old & matured course, the greens now need to be returfed.

And finally the new club house has full locker room facilities with hot water.

Camerons - a lovely place to play golf but only during the right season. Nov & Dec are the wettest months - balls get plugged and the ground is mushy. The dry season starts from Jan onwards. Been playing here every CNY (Jan/Feb) for many years - never rains at this time. Heard the new club hse is ready. Will verify as going to Camerons tomorrow for CNY. We normally walk 18 holes and then stop for lunch and continue another 18 as the green fee is for the whole day.

We played at this Cameron Highlands golf course (CHGC) over the Deepavali weekend. We went there without any high expectations but were pleasantly surprised at the good condition of the golf course.

Normally golf courses up at the highlands are soggy wet most of the year, like Awana or Fraser's hill. However, the drainage of CHGC appeared to be superb and we did not encounter any bad patches on the fairway which would invoke the application of the winter rule.

I played Cameron Highlands twice over two different summers, both times during good weather. As you may recall there are a couple of fairways where you drive over a small elevation (fairway runs along the main road). On several occasions I knew that I hit my ball into the center of the fairway, but it was simply gone. During our second outing I found out why. Some local school kids hide in the bushes and steal the balls. They know you cannot see them because of that elevation. A few fairways later one of these kids approached me, asking if I wanted to buy some used balls, 10 for RM10. He showed me what he got: my balls were among them. That little bastard had the nerve to not only steal my balls from the fairway but to also ask for a ransoms so I can get them back. I told him that I will spare his life if he just returns my balls, but he didn't get it.
Just at that time the marshal came by on his little scooter. He looked like he just woke up after having consumed two crates of some strong brew. I told him what happened, and his response was something like "well, kids nowadays, sooo mischievous" and shushed the kid away. There I was, baffled, bewildered, and still without my balls.
Next time I tee up with my nine iron so I have my Titleists in constant view.
