That's sad...clear water going down the craphole. Golf management in malaysia is so crappy. Oh well, at least Meru is a good option for Perak-ians playing golf...I think.

So its true then. I was having a conversation with a friend at Kota Permai's driving range the other day and happen to mention that I used to work in Clearwater. A total stranger passing by almost jumped on me cursing about the condition of Clearwater. Had to calm him down and clarify that I left in 2003.
Pity. I had (note the past tense) the opinion back then that not only this could be one of the best course in Malaysia, it could've been one of the best in Asia too.
Oh well. At least they're cheap. No?
Haven't been there in a while. Not that friendly with the management.
BTW, good reading your reviews. Keep it up.

Thanks Martyn, I hear Clearwater has gone down the toilet as well, and is in horrendous condition. The thing about Clear Water is that without maintenance, it becomes 50x worse than normal courses due to jungle creep, wild boar and the fact that few people play it...it's like Beruntung at her worse. Stupidity of Clearwater management is obvious, that they are still charging premier rates for a crap course. Avoid CLEAR WATER guys! It obviously looks like the Swamp of Mordor by now.

Called resort for any weekday deals, and got the wrong information. After check in only someone called and told me its exactly double the prize as I was told previously. That's a rather large mistake. As a graceful gesture for the resort's mistake I got exactly nothing. Although the front desk lady at check in was lovely, the Indian guy who seems to be the manager, needs develop some customer friendly skills. That was seriously un-charming to say the least.

Golf course is nice but no more than that. Almost 6500 meters (yes, not yards) from blue... hmmm, maybe Tiger on a day when he finds the fairways... And it's simply overprized.
Par 3 course very nice for kids, but not maintained in a long time. Extreme wild boar damage, scruffy greens.
There is a lot of stuff to do for everyone, but on the whole I found it all overprized. Can get better value for money at Lumut, or Kijal for instance.
Wont go there again.

trust me, Rach, we weren't impressed with Clearwater a few years back (4 years ago I believe) and it looks like it's gone down the toilet hole since then. It's such a waste when the club runs out of money and just lets everything die...and still charge the same. Stupid management is usually to blame, but finances are also a huge factor in golf course maintenance. Without a group of members, most clubs usually die off, which might be what is happening in Clearwater. Sad. Like you, we really think there's huge potential there, but the distance and the seclusion on it is off putting. I'd recommend Meru better for Ipoh golf.

For those reading, Clearwater is a waste of time of money for now!

I played at this golf course two years ago, and was impressed by the fairways, greens and scenery. I recommended this to my friends from hk early this month - since this is one of the top golf courses in Malaysia. However, disappointed is an understatement.
The course has a great layout, lovely scenery and if better maintained, would be a great round of golf. The fairways are like the grass in a cow pasture. The scenery is now much ruined with the factories nearby and the palace we used to see from the golf course is now 'roboh' - that is what the worker said! (And they are still thick skin enough to mention 'anna and the king' film set in their website!!!)

The greens were absolutely the worst I've seen. Bare spots everywhere. And there seems to have 18 different grass in every green! It is not possible to read a putt because the ball would bounce everywhere on the way to the hole. There were so many bald spots and uneven spots on the green, I gave up trying to read them, and putted everything straight at the hole hoping for the best. The tee box is the softest in the world - i seriously have no idea how can they host a tournament the next day.

What can I say? It really wasted our effort to drive all the way to play at clearwater (poor hk friends who flew all the way), worse still - we stayed at the chalets that are not well maintained. The management should be responsible for their slack supervison, from golf course to chalets to the whole area, you can see lots of foreign workers 'lepak' around doing nothing!
CWS really 'meng-siasui-kan' - I think it should be now listed in 'waste of time and money' in your blog man!

I have played there quite often (wife from Ipoh lar). Its really a course of ups and downs. Somedays, when you get there, everything is superb, deserving of the Number 2 spot. Somedays, its like, "Wtf.... like playing in BU only...?" LOL! But one thing's for sure, its looooooooooooooooong.... to get a good score, you better be in form with your driver and fairway woods, or god forbid, long irons!

Played there twice last year.
Conditions is great.

I guess its one of the best base on the course is set up on its natural surrounding. Exceptionally great views with its mixture of the Forest-9 & Lake-9.

But YES --- Its REALLY REALLY LONG.

Oh .. one other thing.
Many golfer would have missed the natural big water bird sanctuary off the 7th green towards the left. It's very visible from the 8th Tee.

You can see huge nests perched on the branches of several large trees next to the lake with Pelicans(?) and Herons (?) making occasional swoops over the water.

It's a real treat for bird watchers.

A group of us played there last week.

If you were a weekend visitor, it would have cost you a bomb to play.
On a Saturday morning, the green fee is a cool RM260 and a shared buggy will set you back another RM40.

That's how expensive this course is.
If not for the reciprocal arrangement we had with our home club, we would certainly have giving that course a skip.
