We reviewed your article before we went to Gutrie. Since we are beginners and Gutrie is the cheapest golf course to us, so we played there. We actually paid Rm 20 for 9 holes. There was no dead fish then yet I did not go back after a few tries. For RM40, I prefer to go to Carey Island GCC and play the whole day for only RM20. It's one of those Mandor-course but for a beginner it was heaven. And there is a nice changing room and drinks for sale too. You'll have fun assessing the course - the second nine is a link! And it is still as bad as it was 5 years ago. (tip : We used to park the cars far away from the counter and just walk in to pay for free, save the RM30) Funny thing is, I stumbled upon a dead fish as well, huge one, and it was also a good 40 to 50 meters from the pond for some reasons. This was the first place I went to when I graduated from the driving range. And it is still as bad as it was 5 years ago.
